Projects

Over the past years our team has been working hard  on improvements to make the farm more functional, and to increase accessibility.

Pasture Restoration

One of the first projects we undertook was pasture restoration. We used a certified soil testing laboratory to determine the nutrients in our soil. Based on this we then partnered with Barenbrug Seed and a noted agronomist to formulate a custom blend of seed for our pasture. This blend was made by taking into consideration our climate, fertility and our soil, which resulted in a custom grass based forage. This forage is supported by a custom fertilizer and lime program to maximize on weight gain and performance.

Barn lot improvements

One of the most important improvement projects we have undertaken has been the improvements to the barn lot,and the access road. The access road was widened, straightened and re-graveled to allow for easier access of large vehicles.  The entire area around the main barn was re-graveled, creating a large area to enable easy turning of large vehicles.  In 2016 we completed the loading area, complete with loading chute, to allow for quick, effective loading.

Scales

In July of 2016 we completed the project of adding a set of scales to the loading area. Our convenient, Rice Lake Weighing System, scales allow for us to easily maintain accurate weight records for all of the cattle on our farm.

Water line improvements and water trough installation

Our waterline project included a development of an existing well on the property that had been idle for approximately thirty years. We reworked the original well and installed a new tank and pump. We also installed 14,580 feet of water line across the property. Our final improvement to date, was the installation of twelve concrete water troughs placed in areas of high travel, on gravel pads, one rubber tire trough, and seven temporary troughs that can be moved around the farm as needed.

Inside working area

We made the addition of the inside working area in the main barn in the summer of 2017. This area includes a cattle chute with attached head gate. This area helps us to provide the best possible care to our cattle regardless of the weather or time of day.  All of our supplies are steps away allowing for quick and efficient care whenever it is needed.

Portable Shade Tree

In the summer of 2017, due to the need for additional shade in some pastures, the portable shade tree was constructed. This allow us to utilize additional pasture space as it can be moved as needed when the cattle are relocated. The shade tree insures that the cattle can maintain their comfort level, even in areas that do not naturally provide for this necessity.
